Writing/Research and Public Relations Intern will assist the coordinator in identifying and selecting projects and proposals for communication to local media outlets and social media.
The position is for Spring 2019 – requiring 10 hours per week with flexibility around classes. Student selected for the internship must enroll for academic credit for the internship. (Possibility to continue in the role during fall 2019 with monetary compensation.)
Responsibilities:
- Write and edit press releases to highlight and promote faculty, staff and student efforts and accomplishments related to grants and research
- Develop and monitor posts to social media regarding research projects, submissions, grant awards and other notable occurrences by faculty and students in the area of research at UW-Green Bay
- Interview and consult with campus partners such as CATL, Research Council, and the University Foundation to identify topics
- Contact individuals responsible for projects and efforts to be highlighted to confirm information and details for the media communication
- Scan the campus environment for opportunities to highlight including student organization and individual student efforts
- Gain an understanding of intellectual property and copy write guidelines
- Support promotion of related areas of achievement and success as directed by the Coordinator or the Associate Vice Chancellor
Qualifications
- Minimum of junior standing in Communication, English or related program of study
- Solid oral and written communication skills
- Able to take initiative and be a self-starter
- Quick learner and adaptable
- Inquisitive and able to work with limited direct supervision
- Comfortable interacting with a wide range of individuals from students to faculty & staff to academic leaders
